Formalities: This Great Society

  The Concept:
A “by peers, for peers” online creative journal, This Great Society (“The Society” for short) provides a collective outlet for artists, musicians, writers, photographers, etc. We publish monthly.

The Content:
We accept anything creatively exceptional that we can upload. If there is a talent, we will find a place to put it. Content is organized under the sections of “Arts,” “Creative Writing,” and “Thoughts and Analysis,” to make navigation easier for the reader.
The Themes:
The Society introduces a new theme each month for contributors to draw on.
Contributions are inspired by issues related to the theme.

The Name:
The full name of the zine derives from the W.H. Auden poem "Bucolics: II, Woods,” and is as follows:

This Great Society
                going smash.

The name refers to the zine as a (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) group of stellar, creative people, and also alludes to our goal of reflecting on the present society that we are surrounded by and part of.
The line is included in the stanza:
"A small grove massacred to the last ash,
An oak with heart-rot, give away the show;
This great society is going smash;
They cannot fool us with how fast they go,
How much they cost each other and the gods!
A culture is no better than its woods."
