I prefer to write songs that seem to just come out of me—there is no sense of “trying” involved in the song when this happens—it's more free. “Land of Whirring Wings” was one of these songs. I came across an ancient prophecy from Isaiah and was struck by the poetic nature of the text. The song came out of this beautiful passage.
